la gente campeona de AsturiesxAfrica ayer finalizó su marcha por los objetivos del milenio en Asturies, 340 km.
El próximo mes de octubre partiran rumbo a Gambia para iniciar la segunda parte de la marcha, recorreran 610 km en tierra gambiana.
Cuando acaben la marcha por Gambia habran recorrido un TOTAL DE 1000 KM reivindicando el cumplimiento de los Objetivos del Milenio.

CASO GAMCOTRAP, HACE MÁS DE 1 AÑO QUE COMENZO LA INVESTIGACIÓN Y JUICIO, SIGUE SIN RESOLVERSE

La gente, colectivos, asociaciones,.... que colaboramos y apoyamos a Gamcotrap hemos recibido noticias desde Gambia, aqui dejamos copìa de su mail y de la documentación que se nos ha enviada, traducida al español, en este caso es buena porque no ha sido con el traductor.

Sesión informativa sobre el Caso del Tribunal GAMCOTRAP El miércoles 19 de mayo de 2010, a las 13:45 un equipo de cuatro funcionarios de seguridad vestidos de paisano llegó a la oficina de GAMCOTRAP en Bakau para invitar a la Directora Ejecutiva a una entrevista para investigar el inexistente proyecto de financiación de microcréditos "Yolocamba Solidaridad" en el Jefatura de Policía en Banjul. La investigación se basaba en una carta de la Oficina del Presidente al Inspector General de Policía. Habiendo discutido sobre citas anteriores realizadas con la Directora de “Yolocamba Solidaridad”, Begoña Sánchez Ballesteros, citada para las 4:00 PM, los oficiales después de consultarlo, decidieron permitir a la Directora Ejecutiva que informase a la Jefatura de Policía al día siguiente, 20 de mayo de 2010. La entrevista se llevó a cabo entre las 10:00 AM - 1:45 PM con un equipo de siete oficiales de seguridad (7). El Inspector General de Policía, Yankuba Sonko apareció brevemente. Se puede suponer que era para confirmar la presencia de GAMCOTRAP, luego se fue.
La investigación a que se refiere como el primer Grupo de Investigación se prolongó hasta el 1 de junio de 2010, cuando dos (2) funcionarios de la Agencia Nacional de Inteligencia que se presentaron como Foday Barry y Gassama Lamin llamaron a la oficina GAMCOTRAP a las 9:30 AM para "volver a investigar el (inexistente) proyecto de microfinanzas Yolocamba”. Mientras ocurre todo esto, GAMCOTRAP no recibe un informe oficial sobre los resultados de la primera Junta de Investigación. Cuando se pregunta sobre el resultado de la primera investigación, el Sr. Barry contesta: "olvidaos de eso, nuestra tarea es volver a investigar el caso." Se supo más tarde que los miembros del primer quipo habían sido despedidos por haber aparecido con un informe que reflejaba la verdad y estaba a favor de GAMCOTRAP. El Grupo de Reinvestigación interrogó al equipo de GAMCOTRAP el 1 de julio de 2010 y las tres funcionarias, la Directora Ejecutiva, la Coordinadora del Programa y la Oficial de Finanzas fueron objeto de informar a la Agencia Nacional de Control de Drogas en la oficina Holgam en Kanifing en fechas concretas hasta el 11 de octubre de 2010.
Fue en la tarde del 11 de octubre de 2010, cuando la Directora Ejecutiva, Dra. Isatou Touray de GAMCOTRAP recibe una llamada de uno de los Oficiales Investigadores, el Sr. Manneh pidiéndole que informe a la oficina NDEA en Banjul junto con la Oficial de Programas Amie Bojang-Sissoho. Después de informar a la oficina NDEA en Banjul, el Oficial de Relaciones Públicas, Abdoulie Ceesay, informó a los dos que el caso GAMOCTRAP había sido trasladado a la Jefatura de Policía y acompañó a la Dra. y la Sra. Touray Bojang Sissoho a la Unidad Fiscal de la Policía Sede. Seguidamente ambas funcionarias de GAMCOTRAP fueron llevadas a una celda policial cuya puerta se cierra a sus espaldas sin más explicaciones de qué delito habían cometido.
Cuando los abogados de GAMCOTRAP se presentaron y preguntaron sobre qué se las acusaba, la Policía no presenta el pliego de cargos, y su respuesta es "eso es en lo que estamos trabajando". Después de varias horas de papeleo, las dos fueron llevadas al tribunal de Banjul donde se las acusa del robo de 30.000 euros. El funcionario de la Fiscalía informa al tribunal de que tienen una "orden ejecutiva de no permitir la libertad bajo fianza de las dos funcionarias durante dos semanas porque son dos personas influyentes en el país y en GAMCOTRAP." El juez alega que no está familiarizado con el caso y que necesita tiempo para revisarlo, por lo tanto envía de la vuelta a las dos mujeres a la celda de policía para pasar la noche y las manda regresar al día siguiente, 12 de octubre de 2010 a las 14:00 para tomar una decisión sobre su libertad bajo fianza.Sin permitir ninguna declaración del abogado de la defensa o de la Fiscalía, el juez notifica a la corte que "es un caso difícil porque ahora la cuestión es " habilitar la libertad bajo fianza ", así que para permitir que la Fiscalía investigue en el caso, voy a enviarlas a la sección de mujeres de la Prisión Preventiva de la Milla Dos, hasta el 20 de octubre de 2010. "
El 20 de octubre de 2010, las dos altas funcionarias comparecieron ante el tribunal para una audiencia sobre la solicitud de libertad bajo fianza y se le concedió a cada una de ellas presentando dos fiadores/avales propietarios de tierras en Gambia y un bono de 1,5 millones de dalasis. Desde entonces, el juicio se alarga llamando a testificar a seis (6) ex mutiladoras formadas por GAMCOTRAP contra las dos funcionarias.
El Sr. Manneh del NDEA y la Directora de Yolocamba Solidaridad, Begoña Sánchez Ballesteros son traídos también en calidad de testigos a declarar en contra de las funcionarias de GAMCOTRAP.
Desde que el último día, 3 de febrero de 2011,que
Termina de declarar
la Directora de Yolocamba Solidaridad no se cita a ningún otro testigo, No obstante, cabe señalar que en dos ocasiones, la Fiscalía aporta otra Ex Mutiladora como testigo un intérprete en los tribunales y la Fiscalía da por terminado el asunto el 20 de abril de 2011. El abogado defensor solicita por escrito “ caso sin alegato" y el 2 de junio de 2011, tanto el Consejo de Defensa y la Fiscalía adoptan dicho alegato en la corte. El Magistrado Ade Taiwo Alagde aplaza el caso hasta el 16 de junio de 2011 en vista de la petición del abogado defensor.

continua el juicio contra la GAMCOTRAP. ayer tuvimos noticias desde Gambia, nos dice que la vista deL 26 de enero fue suspendida de nuevo porque una de las abogadas de Gamcotrap protesto ya que los testigos de la ong española que prestaban declaración, no estaban a disposición de la abogada de GAMCOTRAP.
La vista continua ayer dia 27, de la cual todavia no tenemos noticias.

Los beneficios obtenidos con la venta del libro están destinados a financiar un proyecto agrícola gestionado por la mujeres de la aldea de Jurumku, situada al norte de Gambia, donde prácticamente no llega ninguna ayuda. Este proyecto pretende dotar de herramientas a las mujeres de la aldea para que tengan oportunidades en su pueblo sin necesidad de abandonarlo.

AYER SE SUSPENDIÓ EL JUICIO DE LA GAMCOTRAP, YA QUE EL GOBIERNO LLAMO A DECLARAR A VARIAS EXMUTILADORAS, Y ESTAS NO SE PRESENTARON. DE MOMENTO ESTA APALAZADO AL DIA 1 DE DICIEMBRE. HAY QUE RECORDAR QUE VARIAS EXMUTILADORAS QUE ABANDONARON LA PRÁCTICA DE LA MGF DURANTE EL 2009 GRACIAS AL TRABAJO DESARROLLADO POR LA GAMCOTRAP YA TESTIFICARON EN EL JUICIO. SUS TESTIMONIOS FUERON A FAVOR DE LA GAMCOTRAP, YA QUE RECONOCEN LA GRAN LABOR QUE ESTA HACIENDO LA GAMCOTRAP A FAVOR DE LAS NIÑAS Y MUJERES DE GAMBIA, Y RECONOCIERON QUE LA GAMCOTRAP HABIA CUMPLIDO CON LOS COMPROMISOS QUE TENIAN CON LAS EXMUTILADORAS.

AYER el juzgado de banjul estaba tomado por el ejercitoarmado hasta los dientes pero Isatou y Amie no estaban solas, familaires, amistades, conocidas/os...pero además se presentaronen el juzgado una gran número de las EXPRACTICANTAS DE LA MGF para apoyarlas y defenderlas. Estas mujeres son muy respetabales en su sociedad, y pudieron hablar en el juicio a favor de nuestras amigas y compañeras, y tuvieron que escucharlas. Afirmaron que la Gamcotrap siempre habia cumplido su palabra con ellas y con las comunidades en las que han llevado a cabo sus proyectos de lucha CONTRA LA MUTILACIÓN GENITAL FEMENINA.
Hay que recordar que Isatou y Amie han sido denunciadas por una ong española de robar 30000 euros, los cuales estaban destinados al trabajo con las expracticantas. LAS EXPRACTICANTAS YA HAN HABLADO y su testimonio ha sido muy claro.
MUCHO ÁNIMO PARA LA GAMCOTRAP, Y MUCHAS GRACIAS A ESAS MUJERES TAN VALIENTES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EL PROXIMO 22 DE NOVIEMBRE CONTINUA EL JUICIO EN EL JUZGADO DE BANJUL.

AYER SALIERON EN LIBERTD BAJO FIANZA, LA FIANZA ASCENDIÓ A LA SUMA DE 1.500.000 DALASIS CADA UNA, LO QUE VIENEN SIENDO 50.000 EUROS CADA UNA. SE VE QUE EL ENVIO DE FIRMAS, CARTAS DE APOYO ENVIADAS Y LA DIFUSIÓN DE LA INFORMACIÓN SOBRE EL CASO HA DADO RESULTADOS, PERO NO PODEMOS DEJARLO AHI PORQUE EL DIA 3 DE NOVIEMBRE TIENEN QUE VOLVER AL JUZGADO PARA CONTINUAR CON EL PROCESO.

Equality Now continues to advocate for their right to a fair trial and will continue to monitor the case. Call on the Government of The Gambia to release immediately on bail women’s rights activists, Dr. Isatou Touray and Amie Bojang-Sissoho
Equality Now is deeply concerned about the arrests of prominent Gambian anti-female genital mutilation (FGM) activists and long-time partner, Dr. Isatou Touray, the Executive Director of The Gambia Committee Against Traditional Practices (GAMCOTRAP), and her colleague Amie Bojang-Sissoho, who were taken under police custody on October 11, 2010 without any explanation and later moved to Mile Two Central Prison where they are detained while investigations in their case reportedly continue. GAMCOTRAP is a national and international leader in the campaign against the practice of FGM in The Gambia. According to reports, both Dr. Touray and Ms. Sissoho were arrested and detained on the government’s claim that they would have allegedly misappropriated funds, despite their having been cleared by an initial investigation. Both women were denied bail even though theft is a bailable offense in The Gambia.
The government of The Gambia is bound by Article 9 (3) of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which provides that any persons awaiting trial must be granted bail. In addition, Section 19 of the Gambian Constitution confirms bail as a constitutional right.
Equality Now joins in the calls for the immediate and unconditional release on bail of Dr. Touray and Ms. Bojang-Sissoho. We call upon the Gambian government to ensure that they are guaranteed their right to a free and fair trial in an independent and impartial court; security and dignity of person, and freedom from unlawful detention as guaranteed in Articles 9 and 10 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), Article 6 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights, and Article 19 of the Constitution of the Republic of Gambia. We also urge that if they are not tried within a reasonable time, they be released unconditionally without prejudice to any further proceedings which may be brought against them.
FGM is widely practiced in The Gambia and according to UNICEF, the national prevalence rate is 78.3 percent among women between 15-49 years. Despite the national campaigns against FGM in The Gambia, the practice still persists and the campaigns launched against the harmful traditional practice face strong opposition from the religious leaders and others who promote FGM.
The government of The Gambia has an obligation under both regional and international human rights law to ensure that the practice of FGM is eliminated. In 2005, The Gambia ratified the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa (the “Women’s Protocol”) that, in Article 5(b) requires States Parties to prohibit FGM through legislative measures backed by sanctions. In 2000, The Gambia ratified the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (the “Children’s Charter”) which, in Section 21, requires States Parties to eliminate harmful social and cultural practices and in particular those “prejudicial to the health or life of the child.” In addition, the Gambian Constitution ensures that no individual shall be subject to torture or inhuman or degrading punishment or other treatment. The Gambia is also a party to the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), which both call for member states to take measures to protect girls, including from harmful cultural practices.
We urge the Gambian government to honor its international and regional human rights commitments by enacting and enforcing legislation against FGM as well as supporting educational and outreach to relevant communities on the dangers of FGM in accordance with the article 5 of the Women’s Protocol and article 21 of the Children’s Charter.
